Juma Mgunda was not included in the team’s squad that left the country yesterday for Turkiye ahead of pre-season training.
The future of famous football coach at Simba SC, Juma Mgunda, is hanging in the balance, The Citizen can reveal.
Mgunda, who joined the club on September 7 last year, was not included in the team’s squad that left the country yesterday for Turkiye ahead of pre-season training.
He replaced Serbian tactician Zoran Manojlovic alias Zoran Maki, who left the club after a mutual agreement and joined Egyptian club Ittihad of Alexandria. Mgunda, a former Coastal Union head coach and player, led the Msimbazi Street giants in the preliminary round match of the African Champions League against the Malawian side, Big Bullets.
He also led the team in a 3-1 victory over Primiero de Agosto of Angola in the first leg of the CAF Champions League.
Aside from the match, Mgunda did his well in all the matches the team played in the Mainland Premier League as well as in international competitions.
However, a source at Simba told The Citizen yesterday that the club decided not to continue with the services of Mgunda and will soon give the reason why they have reached that decision.
“It is true that Mgunda did not travel with the team to Turkey for pre-season training, we have flown with head coach Roberto Olivieira, Daniel Cadena and Ounane Sellami.
“The public will know after he has completed his issues with the club,”
Efforts to get Mgunda’s response to the matter proved futile as his phone was not answered.
Besides Mgunda, Simba attacking midfielder Pape Sakho was also not among the travellers as he is yet to report to the team.
