The Geita District Commissioner, Mr Wilson Shimo has urged residents in the area to adopt family planning methods to be able to take care of their families.
Mr Shimo told reporters after a Geita Town Council special meeting to discuss the nutrition contracts recently that although the government was working hard to improve social services developments will be achieved if parents would be able to fulfill their responsibilities to their children.
“My advice to Tanzanians and my fellow Geita District residents, let’s have plans that will help us to have a number of children whom we can take care of,”
he said.
The Geita District Council Head of Health, Social Welfare and Nutritional Services, Dr Konkamukula Clemence said the agenda of family planning works along with the nutrition agenda and if well considered will strengthen the community health.
“Family planning is not only about the number of children, but it is a way of planning appropriate child bearing, so that they grow up in the appropriate living environments.”
Geita Town Council Nutrition Officer, Mr Timotheo Mwendi said the assessment shows that the problem of stunting growth is currently at 0.1 per cent in the council and measures are being taken to address the problem.
He admitted that, the awareness of the society to focus on family planning will strengthen family nutrition level for both mothers and children as many mothers still face health challenges by giving birth without planning.
