Queen Máxima of Netherlands Jets in for Three-day Work Tour


Queen Máxima of the Netherlands arrived is in the country for a three-day work tour in the East African nation.


The monarch jetted at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA) on Monday evening in her role as the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development.

While in the country, Queen Maxima will today begin her visit in Kilimanjaro region where she is due to meet with local farmers and representatives ACRE Africa to talk about theorganisation’s insurance products, according to a tentative itinerary seen by ‘VIVAX MEDIA’.

The monarch’s second field visit will concern the MomCare project implemented by PharmAccess.


This is a digital healthcare package with fixed costs and quality satndards for maternal healthcare.


Pregnant women participating in the project get a digital insurance card which entitles them to care at selected hospitals during the various stages of their pregnancy.


Data gathered during the project seeks to help improve and streamline mother and child care.

The itinerary further details that the Monarch will later head to Dar es Salaam where she will meet vendors at a local market and agents for mobile banking services, where she will try to learn about their experiences with digital financial services.


Queen Máxima will tomorrow scheduled to meet and hold talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Central Bank Governor Florens Luoga.

She will also hold discussions with Deputy Finance Minister Janet Mbene, and Kundo Mathew,who heads the Information, Communication and Information Technology portfolio.

During the discussions, topics will delve digital public goods such as identity documents, digital payments and data privacy.


Her visit comes as Tanzania is currently drafting its third National Financial Inclusion Framework on access to digital financial services for all Tanzanians.

Queen Máxima will also speak with members of the Generation Equality Forum, a five-year action journey launched in 2021 under the UN Women’s leadership to speed up progress towards gender equality worldwide.


During her work tour, the monarch is also expected to speak with representatives of fintech companies about innovations to increase digital financial and economic inclusion.
