TANZANIA has been honoured to host Africa Zone Three Swimming Championship in the event expected to bring to Dar es Salam swimmers from 25 countries.
The swimming championship to be held at Dar Gymkhana Club swimming pool is scheduled to start from November 15th to 20th this and this will be the second time for Tanzania to host a zonal level competition.
According to Hadija Shebe, the Chairperson of the tournament’s organizing committee from Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) named Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania as the countries confirmed athletes in the Zone Three tournament.
There are countries from Zone Four expected to participate in the tournament, They are Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi and South Africa.
Others are Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Zambia, Eswatini and Zimbabwe.
She said that they expect to have more than 300 swimmers and various officials and asked sports stakeholders to sponsor the tournament.
” African Swimming Federation (CANA) has given us a great honour to host this competition, therefore we are asking stakeholders to help us in making this competition a huge success,”
she said.
On her part, the Secretary General of the National Sports Council (BMT), Neema Msitha said that the arrival of all those teams is an honor for the country and asked stakeholders to support the competition.
“I congratulate TSA for being trusted to organize this competition. It is extra mile for the country because besides promoting the country across its boarders, it also provides an opportunity for our swimmers to test their skills against others and as well promoting the country’s tourism,”
she said.
She said that the government is there with TSA to ensure that the competition is successfully organized.
Additionally, Tanzania swimming team’s assistant manager Asha Gomile said Tanzanian swimmers are currently preparing for the event and they hope to do well.
“Our swimmers are ready and it should be remembered that last year, we finished second in a competition held in Uganda. We are ready for the fight and we expect to do well,”
she said.
