With the hardly 48 hours left before the eagerly awaited Kariakoo derby, Kagera soccer fans from different corners are talking about the derby, pitting defending Mainland champions, Young Africans against their traditional rivals Simba SC.
The ‘Vivax Media’ reporter made a casual spot visit on Thursday at Rwamishenye, Kashai, Miembeni and Bakoba wards in Bukoba Municipal where he found groups of soccer fans discussing Sunday’s match.
Alfred Bitegeko (23), a boda boda operator from Kashai Ward explained that he was optimistic Simba SC would emerge victorious basing his reasons on two facts: first, that Simba edged Yanga in the FA encounter and two- that Simba also won their league encounter last year.
Salum Hassan (25), a petty trader at Rwamishenye Ward, on the other hand, supported Yanga to be a well-drilled side, pitting his cards to emerge the winner on Sunday.
“Yanga is a good team with high-quality players including Stephanie Aziz Ki who has clinched the club’s newly introduced NIC Player of the Month Award for October and his two teammates, Dickson Job and Maxi Nzengeli. Our earlier loss to Ihefu FC was just a flop. Our Coach has already taken serious steps to ensure Yanga emerges the winner,”
he boasted.
Hassan, however, has cautioned fans of the heavyweight clubs in the country to embrace peace before, during and after the traditional derby match this Sunday.
“I urge both Simba and Yanga fans to peacefully go to the stadium on Sunday, watch the game and find their way back home without causing any trouble,”
he said.
The duo will meet in an electric Premier League first-round encounter at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, with vital three points hanging by a thread, as each side is thirsty for success.
At 18 points apiece, the winning team on the day will establish a three-point lead at the summit of the league table.
