Tanzania Water Minister Juma Aweso has handed over the drilling machines to the Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA) to expedite the drilling activities of the three remaining wells in Kigamboni municipality partly as an effort to increase water supply in the region.
The development comes after Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa instructed the ministry of water to bring machinery and experts from Drilling and Dam Construction Agents (DDCA), to speed up the completion of the three remaining wells that will add more litres into the system.
The premier inspected and subsequently launched the Kimbiji water boreholes project in the Kigamboni area. The project has a combined capacity to produce 70 million litres of water daily.
“As an emergency strategy…the completion of these three boreholes and others to come will produce additional litres of water for Kigamboni and mitigate water rationing in Dar es Salaam,”
Water Minister Mr Aweso.
Mr Aweso acknowledged that the government is aware of the water blues facing residents that has been prolonged by lower water levels to both Lower and Upper Ruvu Water Treatment Plants.
