CAF Women’s Champions League debutants Simba Queens will have to settle for the less fancied third place playoff after they were defeated 1-0 by South African side Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday in Rabat.
The two teams canceled out each other in the first half with both sides failing to convert any of the chances that came their way.
It was in the 75th minute when Joyce Rabale sweet strike left Simba’s goalie routed to the spot.
Simba could have restored parity almost immediately but Sundowns’ goalie made sure her team heads to the finals with a string of saves.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies completed 458 passes in this game compared to 266 passes completed by Simba Queens.
Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have played 9 games at the CAF WCL and they remain undefeated Wednesday’s victory was their 7th win in open play (D2).
This was the fourth time at the CAF WCL Finals that Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies had won a game by a single goal margin, this was their third 1-0 victory after winning by the same score-line against Vihiga Queens and Rivers Angels in 2021.
They defeated Bayelsa Queens 2-1 at the current competition for their other game won by a single goal.
Simba will now play Bayelsa Queens for a third place playoff on Saturday as Mamelodi square it out with Asfar for the honours on Sunday.
