The Young Africans have officially sealed a 44-match unbeaten run in the premier league after defeating KMC 1-0 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday night.
Substitute Feisal Salum scored the solitary goal to enable his side ascend to the summit of the table with 17 points hence creating a two-point lead.
In an extraordinary experience, when the clock ticked 43rd minute in the first half, Yanga fans inside the stadium gave a standing ovation to Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi for guiding the team to his 43rd league match.
However, as usual, KMC approached the match positively not giving their opponents a breathing space mainly throughout the opening half of the game.
In the second half, Nabi’s side came refreshed and piled pressure to the visitors with Heritier Makambo, who was the target-man following the absence of Fiston Mayele, missing a couple of scoring opportunities.
But in the 79th minute, Feisal found a key to unlock KMC defence as his short-range strike was enough to get maximum points from the tense match.
Tomorrow, the league action continues with a hot fixture when Azam host Simba in a ‘Mzizima Derby’ at the same venue from 7:00pm.
