Tanzania Goverment envoys Serengeti Girls are eager to write history as they play Japan in their group D opener of the FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in Goa, India today.
The brave Girls have already pledged to shine by working hard on the pitch in order to stamp good results which will see them going deeper into the contest.
After today’s match, they will face France on Saturday before winding up their group D campaign by entertaining Canada on Tuesday with both duels crucial for the country’s envoys.
Head Coach Bakari Shime remains confident that his charges are ripe and ready to engage their opponents battling for maximum points which will help them to move on.
“Basing on the level of preparations we have had, I can say that the squad is ready for the finals, we just need prayers from Tanzanians wherever they are,”
Shime said.On her part, National Sports Council (NSC) Secretary General Neema Msitha, who accompanied the team to India, said time is now for Serengeti Girls to create a reputable record at the world cup stage.
“Just a few days ago, Tanzanians were following the 2022 Amputee Football World Cup finals in India of which we were represented by Tembo Warriors who succeeded to enter in the quarter-finals.
“But now, their focus has shifted to you (Serengeti Girls) hence you should know that you have full backing from them and the only way you can pay them back is by winning your fixtures,”
she said.Moreover, Msitha said if they succeed to lift the World Cup trophy, it will be a perfect reward for president Samia Suluhu Hassan saying her government is fully supporting sports development
