The Tembo Nickel Corporation in Ngara in Kagera Region plans to create at least 1,300 direct job opportunities for Tanzanians with skills in various fields to work with the company.
Speaking to the ‘Daily News’ in his office in Dar es Salaam recently, the firm’s General Manager-Human Resources, Saimon Sanga, said that out of the number, at least 1,000 will be stationed in Ngara and the remaining 300 will be posted at Kahama refinery plant in Shinyanga Region.
Sanga said that Tembo Nickel will strictly observe local content requirements and is determined to ensure that 90 per cent of 1,300 direct jobs go to Tanzanians currently residing in the country and in case the post(s) lacks qualified person within the country, then they can request Tanzanian in diaspora to apply for it.
“Out of 1,300 direct jobs, we want 90 per cent of the employees with skills in various fields as machinery technicians, mechanics, electricians, welders, miners, doctors, nurses, drivers, geologists, surveyors and many others,”
said Sanga
Apart from direct jobs, Sanga said that the project will create numerous indirect jobs as they expect to employ not less than 1,500 people, both skilled and unskilled.
He said that until now, they have already employed 65 people and 82 per cent of them are the residents of Ngara District and they will ensure that Tanzanians.
On July 8th, this year Tembo Nickel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ngara District Council for the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects for 2022.
“Through a participatory process the two parties entered a partnership for collaboration which will cover projects in six Wards namely Bugarama, Bukiriro, Muganza, Rulenge, Mbuba and Keza, in Ngara District.
The areas of focus will be education and health while the support covers a total of eleven projects. Seven projects are under the education sector to improve the school’s infrastructures including classrooms, staff offices and school desks.
Under the health sector, there are three projects that aim to improve health facilities’ infrastructures, medical equipment and medical supplies,
he said.
Nickel is a key electric car battery material, and Kabanga in Tanzania’s northwest is the world’s largest development-ready, high-grade nickel sulfide deposit, according to Kabanga Nickel. It is estimated to contain more than 1.52 million tonnes of nickel.
