Motorist may now access fuel even if they do not have money following the launch of a new mobile App which will enable them to refill their cars on credit.
The new App, ‘Wese’, launched on Wednesday, will enable car owners or drivers to have the opportunity to buy fuel and pay later without interest.
Kinondoni District Commissioner Godwin Gondwe said that such a new initiative is expected to support motorists economically, especially commercial vehicles.
Various stakeholders from financial institutions, media, oil marketing companies and drivers’ associations attended the launch in Dar es Salaam.
Mr Gondwe said the new ‘App’ would be run on trial in the city of Dar es Salaam from next month.
“This initiative would enable all owners of large and small cars, ‘daladalas’, motorcycles and (rickshaw) ‘Bajaji’ to get fuel service more easily,” he stressed when officially launching the App.
He said the launch of the ‘App’ will benefit bodaboda and bajaji riders who most of them are young people.
“The electronic system is going to change the lives of young people, it will enable them to grow commercially,”
he said.
Founder of the Wese system, Francis Ekeng, a Nigerian, said the app is similar to an ‘Uber’ system in which the user has to download the ‘App’ on his mobile phone and register.
“Motorists will be able to refill their vehicles at any petrol station on credit in the country, but he will have to pay before midnight,”
he said.
Elaborating further, he says if the driver fails to pay the debt on time, the debt will attract a fine and if he pays on time, he will qualify to get more amount of fuel on credit.
“Every time a driver takes fuel and pays without a fine, a point is given which makes him more creditable,”
he said.
