Katavi Region Has Administerd Covid – 19 Vaccines to 204,129 People

Katavi Region has successfully administered Covid – 19 vaccines to 204,129 people, equivalent to 56 per cent of the targeted 367,826 residents, it has been learnt.

This was revealed recently by Katavi Regional Commissioner (RC) Ms Mwanamvua Mrindoko while updating journalists on the ongoing campaign that aims to provide education and awareness to the public on Covid – 19 vaccinations.

“Our target in Katavi Region is to vaccinate 367,826 residents by the end of 2022. Until October 9th this year, we have achieved by vaccinating a total of 204,129 people, equivalent to 56 per cent of our target,”

said the RC.

She urged residents in the area and all Tanzanians to continue taking precautionary measures against Covid -19, including getting vaccinated because the global pandemic is still prevalent.

Equally, the RC assured people that the vaccinations were safe, insisting that at the same time, the jab boosts immunity and combat development of severe infections across the country.

On his side, Mlele District Commissioner (DC), Mr Filberto Sanga warned that there are myths and misconceptions spread across the community by people who do not have good intention on the fight against the pandemic.

“I call on citizens to get the jab which is a great option as the vaccine is safe,”

advised the DC.

In another development, RC Ms Mrindoko called on citizens in the region and all Tanzanians to continue taking all necessary precautions against the Ebola Viral Disease (EVD) following an outbreak of the disease in neighbouring Uganda.

Katavi Region borders with Eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) across Lake Tanganyika and Kigoma Region.

However, she allayed fears from the public emphasizing that so far there is no reported Ebola case in the country.

Equally, she directed district commissioners to continue holding public meetings in their respective areas to raise awareness of risk factors for Ebola infection and protective measures.

“Communities should be educated over the best ways for preventing the disease since prevention is better than cure, awareness education on the precautionary measures to combat the deadly disease was of paramount importance than anything else,”

she emphasized.
