In the new report of the Speedtest Global Index rankings for the third quarter ending September 2022 indicates that Halotel has the country’s fastest mobile internet, leading others for three consecutive quarters.

Ookla, which owns and operates the popular speedtest.net Internet speed testing service, has published its latest Speedtest Global Index rankings for Tanzania for the third quarter of 2022, which shows that Halotel has outperformed other big telecom companies.

It reveals that among top mobile providers in Tanzania in Q3 2022, Halotel delivered the fastest median download speed at 17.63 Mbps, followed by Vodacom (13.63Mbps), and Airtel (11.61Mbps).

Released recently, the rankings are based on median download speed to best reflect the speeds a user is likely to achieve in a market.

Regarding city internet speeds, Dar es Salaam showed the fastest median mobile download speed among Tanzania’s most populous cities during Q3 2022 at 13.90 Mbps. Followed by Mwanza and Arusha.

In the previous Q2 2022 the Halotel had the fastest median download speed of 17.12 Mbps during.

In the first quarter too, the report showed that the Company had fastest median download speed at 17.84 Megabytes per second (Mbps) followed by Vodacom (12.09 Mbps), Airtel (10.6 Mbps), TTCL (10.4 Mbps).

According to statistics, 29.8 million people, or nearly half of Tanzania’s population, subscribe to internet services.

Speaking to the Vivax Media, on Wednesday, over the new findings, Halotel’s Deputy Managing Director Thang Bui Van has attributed the telecom’s internet speed to the investment and thought-out strategies.

“We have for the past three years directed focus and strategies into expanding internet services coverage in Tanzania,”
he said.

Mr Thang said with nearly 30 per cent of the customers using 4G the company plans to increase the numbers to at least 60 per cent by the end of the year.

“This is partly propelled by the increase of digital access in Tanzania and the rising market demand, thus more of the company investments will be directed towards infrastructure in efforts to increase and upgrade Base Transceiver Station (BTS),”
he said.

Halotel’s future plan is to continue investing in 4G network and currently we have 1700 4G Base Transmission Stations (BTS) sites, more investments will be directed towards infrastructure in effort to increase Halotel 4G network coverage,” he said.

The Speedtest Global Index compares internet speed data from around the world on a monthly basis.

Data for the Index comes from the hundreds of millions of tests taken by real people using Speedtest every month. From January 1, 2019, onward, countries must have at least 300 unique user test results for mobile or fixed broadband in the reported month to be included in the Index.
