Tanzanian Govermentt Commits to Enhance Reproductive Health Services

 


THE government has vowed to continue improving the Universal Sexual and Reproductive Health and Reproductive Rights in order to reduce maternal deaths in the country.

This was revealed by Reproductive and Child Health Services Director in the Ministry of Health, Ahmad Makuwani during the roundtable discussion on accelerating   access to SRHR held recently in Dar es Salaam.

The round table discussion was organized by Norwegian Embassy in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Makuwani noted that, the government will continue to support the sexual health and reproductive rights by increasing the number of health facilities, providing enough education to women, improving health facilities infrastructures.

’We will continue to support the maternal system by increasing health facilities, providing education as well as improving various infrastructures that will help women in their maternal matters, ’he noted

He added that in efforts to reduce the maternal death to women, they will ensure that the contraceptives that are being provided through the government and other development partners are been used for intended purposes handling the sexual and reproductive needs.

Meanwhile, development partners have pledged   continuous cooperation with   Tanzanian government in implementing reproductive health programmes in the country.

The Norwegian Minister of the International Development, Anne Tvinnereim noted that enough education should be provided to girls and women on their health reproductive rights.

While addressing this, the Minister has shown her pleasure meeting with the president Samia Suluhu recently and she assured that they will continue to cooperate with the government of Tanzania in addressing diplomatic matters as well as the sexual and reproductive health and right, maternal and new born health to the public.

Meanwhile, she has also commended on the satisfactory efforts done by the government of Tanzania in sexual and reproductive health and rights, maternal and new born health.

On his part the UNFPA Representative in Tanzania, Mark Bryan Schreiner noted that since the youth population in Tanzania expands, this is due to the efforts done with various development partners helping women to improve their sexual and reproductive health rights.

‘’In 2021, UNFPA and other partners provided  modern contraceptives worth 1.9m/-  in 2021 to help  couples to make  right choice  in family planning .

He added that the government in collaboration with Norway embassy and other development partners have cooperated in improving the reproductive matters whereby recently UNFPA handed over reproductive health supplies worth of billions of shillings to the government, the renovation of Amana Hospital ward  at  420m/-.

In addition, he has also assured that to continue working with Norway Embassy and the government of Tanzania in the prevention of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), maternal health, campaign to end fistula, and donating health supplies helping women during their deliveries.
