Tanzania Have Kept an Eye to Downsize Malawi in T20 Cricket

TANZANIA U-19 Women’s Team face Malawi in their Group A game of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup Africa qualifiers at Botswana Cricket Association’s oval 1 in Gaborone today.

The Tanzanian ladies still hold the unbeaten record after beating Mozambique in the opening day by nine wickets and then pulverized Nigeria by 115 runs. In the first encounter, Mozambique U19s Women won the toss, opted to bat, and registered 19 runs in 10 of the 20 overs.

However, Tanzania managed to chase the target in one over, after they bagged 20 runs in an over. Tanzanian Women’s Team maintained their perfect run with a 115-run victory over Nigeria. In the encounter Nigeria U-19 Women won the toss, electing to bowl, and Tanzania who batted first registered hefty 174 runs in 20 allocated overs.

The Nigeria side failed to meet the target set by Tanzanian ladies as they posted 59 runs in 19 overs. Tanzania, therefore, command its group after securing wins in two games they played. They are followed by Malawi U19s Women who have played once against Mozambique and won by eight wickets.

Rwanda U19s Women follows next on the table after their nine runs win against Nigeria. Nigeria and Mozambique are tailing at the bottom of the table after each nation lost two encounters they played. Nine teams contest for the slot to the world.

The qualifier games for Africa are split into two groups. Group A includes Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria, Malawi, and Mozambique while Group B consists of the host Botswana, Uganda, Namibia, and Sierra Leone.

The top two from each group will then go into the semi-finals before the winner of the final and then celebrates a ticket to the World Cup proper in South Africa. Thus, nine African teams battle it out to be the 16th team to book their tickets to the 2023 tournament to be hosted by South Africa.

They will join fellow qualifiers Indonesia, Scotland, UAE, and the USA in securing the spots that were left open to regional qualifiers. USA qualified directly as the only team eligible to participate America’s History beckons for qualifying nation from Africa to book a first-ever ICC World Cup appearance.
