Reserve managers at the Lake Eland Game Reserve, South Africa, found a
3.9 meter (13 ft) African Rock Python dead. It was trying to digest its
final meal – a porcupine.
The porcupine punctured its interiors from the inside of the python
in a desperate attempt to break free and survive, which led the giant
python to die.
You’re probably wondering how come the snake was not alerted by the
rodent’s quills. Well, some predators rely on chemical or thermal
sensory mechanisms to ambush their prey at night, therefore, it is
plausible that the python did not realize the prey had spikes until it
was too late.
